Crown and Bridge
Crowns are custom-made dental restorations—often called “caps”—that fit over your natural tooth to strengthen and protect the remaining structure, restore proper function, and enhance your smile’s appearance. They are commonly made from materials such as full porcelain, zirconia or gold, depending on your specific needs for strength and aesthetics.
What to Expect During Treatment
Crown treatment typically takes two visits. During the first appointment, the tooth is carefully prepared, a digital scan is taken, and a temporary crown is placed to protect your tooth. At your second appointment, your custom crown is tried in, adjusted for a perfect fit, and permanently bonded in place. If needed, specialized shade matching is done with the lab to ensure your crown blends seamlessly with your natural teeth.
A Crown May Be Recommended When:
- A tooth has more filling than remaining natural structure
- The existing tooth structure is weakened and can no longer support a filling
- There is extensive decay or damage
- The tooth is discolored or aesthetically compromised
- A root canal has been performed (as teeth can become more brittle afterward)
- The tooth is supporting a dental bridge
Bridges are used to replace missing teeth when the surrounding teeth are strong enough to support crowns. A bridge consists of two or more crowns fused together, with an artificial tooth in the middle to restore function, alignment, and esthetics.
Why Replace Missing Teeth:
Replacing a missing tooth helps prevent shifting of neighboring teeth, protects your bite, and supports healthy jaw function. The alternative to a bridge is often a dental implant, and we’ll discuss the advantages and considerations of each option to help you make an informed decision.
Our goal is to restore strength, health, and beauty to your smile with a treatment plan personalized to your needs.
